A Holiday Must Read

If you are a female type (sorry guys) and prone to holiday overwhelmth or depression, or just want a good, fun holiday read, check out “Ghosts of Boyfriends Past” by Carly Alexander.  It is smart, funny and will keep you in the spirit of the holidays, without being corny or sappy.  I try to read it most years.

Let me know what you think of it!

The Four Agreements

A Toltec Wisdom Book

Author: Don Miguel Ruiz

I categorize this as a fun read because it’s short, sweet and beats the point into your head repeatedly.  It only takes about a half hour to read and that’s if you stop for a potty break.

These are words of wisdom from generations past. Although he doesn’t address it in this book, the author believes that dreaming is the main function of the mind. Thus, the four agreements, while simplified, are intended  to create “the bigger picture” of people’s unconditional faith.

The author explains the four agreements individually and at great length. They are:

Always do your best

Don’t assume anything

Be impeccable with your word

Don’t take things personally

It’s very basic, but I highly recommend it anyway. I’d lend you my copy but Keven’s using it either as decoration or a coaster.

If you’re looking for something more challenging, I’d suggest “The Art of War” or “The Book of Five Rings”. “Conversations with God” has been recommended to me, but I haven’t read it yet, so if you have, let me know what you think of it.

Basic Understanding of my psychosis Ü

Although I thoroughly enjoy a good, challenging read, there are times when I must revert back to the tried and true, standby fun read.

Certain times of year require season related reads, either enhancing the season at hand or keeping me from losing what’s left of my precious few marbles.

Summertime for me screams out for stories related to summer resorts/vacations, beach, ocean, friendships, etc. My favorite place to read is somewhere outside, whether floating in the pool, sitting on the deck or at a park.

I don’t do romance novels, so rest assured, nothing I recommend will be part of that genre.
