Very Good Summer Chick Reads
Considering that last summer I didn’t read one book from start to finish, this year I’m on it, and no repeats! The weather here has been questionable and I’m still waiting for summer to officially start, but I’ve kept the whole theme alive taking journeys in my mind via the books to a warmer, sunnier climate.
Very good enjoyable reads this summer include The Beach House and Swimming Lessons (the sequel) by Mary Alice Monroe. They take place at a beach town in the low country of South Carolina. While the storyline is primarily about a mother-daughter relationship along with their friends, some old, one new and in trouble, along with the trials and tribulations including a hurricane, personal as well as various family crisis, death, loss, and bouncing back. The underlying theme is about loggerhead turtles and their whole life and reproductive cycle.
Both reads are enjoyable and worth reading.
Death at a Funeral
Death at a Funeral (2007) – Movie Details – Yahoo! Movies
If you liked Four Weddings and a Funeral and British humor, you will like this movie. It’s a kooky comedy of errors that take place prior to, and at, an in home funeral. The only thing really missing was Hugh Grant. Somehow he would’ve fit perfectly in this movie.
I think for me, some of it dragged on a bit. Overall though, not a bad movie. It was quite entertaining and funnier reliving the highlights more so than during the movie. Oddly enough. But then again, I have the same reaction to South Park, so take that with a grain of salt.
Congratulations, Matt and Christina!
We went to a really fun bbq at Matt & Chris’ house yesterday. Yesterday was my day of, I don’t know, either omens or premonitions, but I had several. The best: When we were about a block from their house, I said how I could see Chris with a whole bunch of kids. Alyssa agreed. We parked and went in the house. On the fridge was an ultrasound picture and within a moment or two, Chris informed us that she’s pregnant and due in February! <<side note: although she’s due the 28th/29th, for obvious reasons, I’ve got dibbs on the 7th!>>
Congratulations you two, I hope you have a smooth and easy pregnancy. Take lots of pictures!
I Don’t Live In A Menagerie. I Live In An Aquarium!
It appears that I live in an aquarium. Monday night my cat was pawing at something behind a large printer in my family room. When I got up to look, there was nothing there. I waited a bit, then a lizard appeared!
In previous years, I’ve been the proud owner of field mice, gardner snakes, misc birds, bird or mouse heads, a small bat, found a frog floating on my pool, and now a lizard. Do I dare wonder what’s next?
Remodeling My Car
After much deliberation, the verdict is in. I’m keeping the car. At least for the time being. In light of my recent decision, I’ve been giving the car a little extra attention. The tires had been worn to the point that every time I took the car out, I did the sign of the cross and did a silent prayer I’d get to my destination in one piece. I spent some time this past week calling around for the best price and found a guy in Auburn who gave me the best price and a good brand.
I started to notice some very scary wear on my tires on Wednesday and decided that Thursday was D-day. Under normal circumstances it takes about a hour to get there. So I checked traffic online, packed some things to keep me occupied, and was heading out to the car, when I saw the neighbors who had something they wanted to talk to me about. 45 minutes later, I said my pre-venture prayers and hit the road, only to discover the clear traffic was no longer clear. Apparently the Blue Angels were in town, one of the major bridges was shut down, and traffic was backed up in every direction. My trip took over an hour & a half! YIKES! But I arrived safely and in one piece.
I met up with Chris, the owner of the tire shop, and we went out to look at the car. The picture is of one of the tires when I arrived. There was even more scary-wear and I was very grateful to have made it in one piece. He was very friendly and got the tires replaced without an ounce of grief. I expecting massive amounts of sh*t from him, since mechanics usually have a lot to say about whatever you’re in their shop for and the tires, admittedly, were in bad, bad shape.
Note to self and others…if you want/need a good deal on tires and quick, friendly service, go to Chris at Afford-A-Tire in Auburn. 3108 A Street SE, Auburn. 206-371-4283 or 253-833-8882.
After my car wash and a new quart of oil, my girl is running like ‘almost new’. Next on the agenda? New windshield wiper. The rubber has worn off one of the blades and so I’ve woven it through the existing wiper frame and semi-secured it. And an oil change.
New Eatery. Check It Out!
Keven & I tried this “new” place tonight. We quickly discovered it’s not so new, but is a bit out of the way, so if you don’t know it’s there, you’ll never notice it.
It is Iranian cuisine and quite tasty, if a little on the spendy side ($15-22). The lunch pricing was more reasonable ($6-10). The people were very friendly and attentive. I know we’ll be back!
